Overkill in holiday banners

Dear Editor:

I am a very concerned Christian and Deerfield Beach resident.

Through the past few years, we have all seen the articles and news stories regarding the setting up of manger scenes at malls and intersections in communities and the list goes on. If we want to be politically correct, we are supposed to say “Happy Holidays” and not “Merry Christmas” to persons at work and in the retail arena.

However, I must say that the City of Deerfield Beach is taking things too far the other way when they put up holiday banners (as their holiday decorations) that proclaim “Happy Chanukah,” “Kwanzaa” and “Happy Holidays” and ... correct me if I am wrong, where is the one banner that this season is all about? Where is the “Merry Christmas” banner? The actual “Reason for the Season! If those of the Jewish faith got their religious holiday mentioned, where is the Christians’ banner? Deerfield Beach has represented all of our brothers and sisters of different religious backgrounds, beliefs and traditions, but we Christians get “Happy Holidays!” Why has Deerfield Beach left the Christian segment entirely out of the picture? I think it would behoove the city to look into putting up a banner next year that declares “Merry Christmas!”

A job well-done by Deerfield EMS

Dear Editor:

Far too many of our public servants get bad raps from the ever-complaining residents of Deerfield Beach. I wanted to take just a moment to express my gratitude to our town’s ambulance/EMT crews. Unfortunately, I have had to be transported by ambulance three times during this past year. Each and every time, a competent and, more importantly, compassionate crew “came to my rescue.” They listened to my concerns, uplifted my spirits, performed appropriate medical interventions and, when I complimented them, they informed me that all that seems to ever make it to print are complaints! Well, here’s a “thank you” for a job well done!

Century Village Insider ... apples to oranges

To the Editor:

The Century Village Insider presses buttons and stimulates discussions.  It is like a radio-free CVE that third world tyrants would silence if CVE were in their country.  The importance of the Century Village Insider is clear; Capabianco is trying to explain things here. Who is out of touch?  Not the Century Village Insider.  At our last elections, nobody advocating “upgrades” was elected and the troublemaker, who came in first, opposes needless spending.

While the Recreation Committee and CVE Master Management are different, they certainly can be compared just like apples and oranges. Oranges are orange and apples are not. The point the Century Village Insider makes is what-you-see is what-you-get. Everyone wants to SEE their money spent wisely whether for apples or oranges.  The Century Village Insider calls it as it sees it.  It mirrors Century Village East, the good and the bad, and serves as a vehicle for improvement.
