This is regarding Mr. Cooke’s letter to the editor dated on Nov. 20. As a very involved member in our community, Deerfield Beach, I was overjoyed to see the Women of Faith conference covered on the front page of our local newspaper. I did attend this positive event, just like I have for the last 10-plus years. I understand each human being has his or her own perception of what is positive and what is negative, what is significant and what is not. This is the splendor of free speech in our country! Negative to me is reading about those lost souls out there who are hurting their own neighbors in the weekly Crime Watch article or other news reported that has to do with killing, robbing, stealing … the list goes on and on! If 8,000 KKK members rallied together to burn a cross, that would be newsworthy, no? That would make me queasy — for sure! I bet all the media would give this kind of information front page status. It would also be televised because this surely is significant news in our society! So, finally, a little bit of something that has not hurt anyone, but may even have saved lives from destruction is reported and you get sick to your stomach over it? Wow, that gives me great insight on your soul!
Mr. Cooke you are right about not knowing if these women really did accept Christ? That is between them and their Creator. What baffles me is that you became queasy about it… to me a person who becomes queasy due to someone’s personal decision to follow Jesus tells me that the queasiness is due to some underlying hurt or pain. This usually is because of negative experiences that religion may have caused and this, my friend, is significant news in my eyes.
I have been there wallowing in my own misery. I remember those days of becoming queasy when I heard Jesus’ name or anything to do with religion. After educating myself and comprehending the beauty of Christ, I am now full of joy because I finally realized it is not about religion but about relationships (a relationship with you, as a human being, and a relationship with God!) Now, that is positive news you will not find on the front page of our local papers. May you be blessed without measure and I hope you don’t become too sick to your stomach by me saying so.
Thank you, Observer, for the excellent journalism you represent each week. Keep up the fine work! Next time my friends and I will take a picture of us at the conference so we can keep it local.

Glad for Women of Faith
Dear Editor:
Although I have never written to a newspaper, I feel compelled to congratulate you on your coverage of the Women of Faith conference, and especially your reply to the person who “felt queasy” about people giving their lives to Christ. When I picked up the paper, I immediately noted the picture and caption and was so proud that our paper is not so intimidated by a minority of people (who want all things “Godly” to be erased from our society) that they would let such a huge event go unreported.
In the year-and-a-half of our politicians vying for our votes, many if not all of their speeches ended with God Bless America. I guess that made him queasy too?
