A sobering moment

Dear Editor:

I want to share my morning with you, I attended a tribute to our fallen heroes. At this memorial at Pompano High School there were over 4,800 flags and attached to each was a picture of everyone who has lost his/her life fighting for me. You had to see their faces, they were just pups. You hear about it every day on the news, but to actually see an endless sea of flags representing every life lost was truly a sobering experience. All those young faces of the men and woman who so courageously gave their lives so you and I can go about our day and be safe here at home was a reminder of how much we take for granted.

Please let us not forget to pray for our troops, both those who have fought in the past, are fighting today, and our fallen heros and their families for giving us the ultimate sacrifice.

Remember to put your flag out in honor of them all, I know I will.

Where is the President-elect’s name?

Dear Editor:

Republican or Democrat, no mention of the 44th President-elect, Barack Obama, in the Nov. 6 Observer? I’m sure that if the results had been different, your front page would have been.

Dear Ms. Smith

We are a community-oriented paper that comes out on Thursday morning. We determined that many people already knew the winner of the presidential election by Thursday morning and so did not focus on coverage there. Instead, our focus was on the local and state races, which don’t always receive as much coverage. The Observer offered articles about people who were participating in early voting and we covered some of the campaign sign-waving events. We also plan extensive coverage of the upcoming 2009 municipal races.
