Out of the mouths of babes

Dear Editor:

I frequently pick up my great-grandchildren from school and bring them to my home until Mom gets home. I did this last week; sat down to read a book while they were having their snacks at the coffee table and were having conversation between the two of them. Suddenly, I realized that they were talking “politics.” My 5-year-old great-grand was talking about presidents. She made the comment that there were two presidents and one of them would be living in the white house. One was brown and one was white. Older brother, age 8, asked her who she wanted to be president and she said she wanted the brown one. She, in turn, asked big brother who he wanted to be president, and he replied he wanted the brown one, too. At this time I decided I would intercede and find out just how they came to this decision. Being the older and more experienced, I asked my 8-year-old great-grand just why would he not vote for the white guy. Very adamantly, he replied, because he is “too old.”  Out of the mouths of babes, but maybe they are more intelligent regarding the voting process than we are.  I am going to listen to my great-grands.  I think they have it right.

Church goers are inconvenienced by run

Dear Editor:

I believe that I can speak on behalf of the parishioners of St. Ambrose parish, especially those people who attend the two early morning Sunday Masses, the 7:30 and 9 a.m., in particular. This is in reference to the Dunn’s Run that was just held recently on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Having the run at such an early hour, especially on a Sunday morning, is of such inconvenience for many people because with Federal Highway and Hillsboro Boulevard being roped off at the turn-around and not being able to cross the highway or have access to the Church’s main entrance driveways makes it impossible for many people, who would normally take just a few minutes to get to Church; now it takes people a lot longer to arrive at Church because they have to find a different way/route to get to Church, especially those parishioners who live along A-1-A.

To the organizer of this yearly event, especially for next years’ run, please have a little consideration for us early Church goers. This is definitely something that we should not have to put up with every year.
