Bru’s Room

Last Friday night, my husband and I decided to go to a South Florida favorite, Bru’s Room.  There are 7 different Bru’s Room locations throughout Palm Beach and Broward County. Each offers an extensive menu and fun activities throughout the week. Depending on the location and night of the week, you can find trivia nights, children’s movie nights, beer pong, fish fry Fridays and poker, to name a few.   Although we dined in the family dining section, a patio and bar also offers eating areas.

The broad menu surprised us with some really different options from which to choose.  With 18 different appetizers, it was difficult to pick just one. We finally decided on the deep-fried pickle chips.  What a good idea! Thinly sliced dill pickle chips breaded in beer batter, fried and served with a Cajun ranch sauce really hit the spot. I would definitely recommend trying this unique dish. You won’t find this item on many other menus.

Fourteen sandwiches are included, not counting the ‘build your own burger’ portion of the menu.   Burgers are not only available in beef but also in turkey, chicken and veggie. Several cheeses, breads and toppings are available to complete your burger.  Hand-tossed pizza, flatbreads, soups and several salads are there to tempt you when trying to decide what to order. Entrees range from chicken pot pie, NY strip and fajitas to fish- and-chips, BBQ, and fried or grilled shrimp. For the more health conscious, grilled chicken, dolphin, stir fry and sesame seared tuna are also available.

Our server, Kerline Jean, offered some helpful suggestions to navigate through the menu. Since we wanted to try many different specialties, my husband ordered Bru’s All-Pro combo, which included a hand-tossed pizza and 10 of their signature chicken wings. The pizza had a light crispy crust with a sauce that had a hint of sweetness. The wings, which can be grilled or fried, were big and meaty and the sauce was spicy and delicious. Both were great and we could see why these two dishes are favorites.  I chose the dolphin reuben sandwich, featuring  dolphin dusted in a Cajun seasoning and served on grilled marble rye bread with Swiss cheese and a thousand island coleslaw. It was a wonderful twist on an old classic.

General Manager, Chris Frank, and head bar manager, Linda Marke, dropped by our table to share some of the history of Bru’s Room. We were also fortunate enough to meet the owner and creator of Bru’s Room, Bob Burd-zinski, former NFL linebacker and football great. He describes his food as sports grill fare with gourmet salads and fair prices. He certainly has attained that and, let me add, the portions are very generous. Televisions in all areas feature sporting events from football to UFC. Televisions in the family dining area feature Nick at Night for the children. Kids eat free on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This place has something for everyone. But, I was most impressed with their dedication to giving back to the community. Recently, they held their 21st Annual Charity Golf Classic in support of National Foster Care Month. This helps provide support for children in Broward County who are in foster care and looking for a ‘forever family’ through adoption. In August, they will host the Fireman Takeover to help raise funds for local charities. This truly is a community-oriented business.

Be sure to stop by during the day and try the All American lunch for $5.90. Chicken, burgers, wraps, salads and wings are available; the menu changes monthly.  The Bru’s Room is located at 123 NE 20 Ave., Ste. 21, in Deerfield Beach.

Until we eat again...
